The Anderson County Detention Center was constructed in 1956 at a cost of $500,000. Since then the following additions have been made:

New 98-bed wing in 1997 for $3 million.

New 50-bed work camp building in 2000 with grant funding.

Rehabilitation of the old county home building in 2000 for $153,000 (office space)

A drug analysis laboratory in 2001 with grant funding.

New 50-bed facility for females in 2004 for $1 million.

There were almost 8000 admissions in 2007.

Average daily population has increased from 220 in 2000 to 434 in 2006.

Since 1956, there has been a net of only 153 beds added to the Detention Center while the population has grown by almost 100,000 people. Since 2001, there has been a rapid increase in the Average Daily Population of the Detention Center. A feasibility study is currently underway to best determine the current need for more space.

The Detention Division has a total staff of 72. Our officers work 12-hour shifts.
